Academics
In addition to career training, Oconaluftee Job Corps CCC also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.
GED/High School Diploma
One of our top goals at Oconaluftee Job Corps CCC is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Oconaluftee are automatically enrolled into our GED/high school program. Students who complete this program's core classes may participate in an online high school diploma program which is paid for by the center.
Career Counselors
Career counselors work with students in several areas:
- Advanced training
- Advice on trade change requests
- Career training
- College information and enrollment
- Equal employment opportunity (EEO) issues
- Evaluations of student progress and advice on how to improve grades
- Leave requests
- Referrals for Armed Forces recruitment
Driver's Education Program
Students that currently do not have a current state driver's permit or license can participate in our Driver's Education Program.
Reasonable Accommodation
Students can request reasonable accommodation which provides assistance for the disability during the application process or anytime while enrolled in the Job Corps CCC. Reasonable accommodation is provided to make sure that you get the support you need to participate successfully in the program.
